Interforge 65,000 Ton Open Die Press

Historical Performance

In 1996, Oilgear was contracted by Aubert & Duval to upgrade the Interforge 65,000 Ton Open Die Press, the former largest press in the world.

Aubert & Duval acquired this press in 1977, which originated from Russia. The press was hydro-mechanically driven and built for manufacturing parts for large applications such as in the Aerospace industry. In the 1990s , the necessity of upgrading the machine system became obvious. The weakness of the press was in its lack of precision and in the inability to control the speed.  Fully aware of the exacting requirements of the Aerospace industry, Aubert & Duval turned to Oilgear’s knowledge and expertise for help.

Interforge 65,000 Ton Press is using :

  • Oilgear Servo Valves
  • Motorola series 68 000, specifically programmed by Oilgear’s engineers

Operating Parameters of Press:

  • Number of main cylinders : 5
  • Number of return cylinders : 4
  • Pressing Stroke : 1500 mm
  • Maximum effort realized by the press : 67,000 T
  • Number of multiplicators : 2
  • Return Speed : 200 mm/sec
  • Total height : 36 meters

Oilgear’s solutions satisfied each of Aubert & Duval needs. Oilgear provided Servo valves and a specific computer program running on a Motorola microprocessor. Oilgear’s proportional valves replaced the original Russian valves. The results were outstanding. The modification allowed the machine to achieve amazing precision and the ability to control the speed. A remarkable accomplishment on such a huge press.
