This accumulator ASO valve is used to isolate the accumulators from the main system.
The ASO valve is capable of flowing in both directions therefore charging of the accumulator is via the same valve, negating the need for a separate check valve in parallel.
In the closed condition the pressure within the stored volume acts to maintain the valve closed.
On operation of the pilot system the valve will open provided downstream pressure is present. A loss of pilot or downstream pressure will automatically cause the valve to close.
In summary the valve will open when flow is diverted away from the descaling header to charge the accumulators, but when the headers require the flow the valve is piloted open.
